Control Strategy for Harmonic Compensation of Three Phase Four Wire UPQC with Conventional and AI Controllers

To reduce reactive power problems, harmonics, voltage flicker/imbalance, and negative sequence current in power distribution systems with Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC). A four-wire, three-phase system is the intended use for this specific architecture. In this novel topology, the series active filter is configured with three legs, while the shunt active filter is equipped with four legs, deviating from the conventional three-leg configuration. This modification is implemented to eliminate the need for series capacitors in the shunt active filter and avoidable issues related to capacitor voltage balancing. The UPQC model in the paper incorporates PI controllers, fuzzy logic controllers, and neural networks. The controllers play a crucial role in regulating the UPQC system, ensuring its optimal performance. A THD comparison table is developed to compare the effectiveness of the PI controllers, fuzzy logic controllers, and neural networks. The proposed performance of the methodology is thoroughly evaluated through MATLAB simulation. The combination of innovative topology design and controller strategies showcases the potential for improved power quality in real-world applications.
