Developing a Mapbasic-Driven Multicriteria Decision Support Tool for Environmental Management: A Case Study on the Selection of a Technical Landfill Site in Djelfa

In this study, we utilized the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and ELECTRE I methods for multicriteria analysis to determine the optimal location for a Sanitary Landfill (SL). The AHP method, known for its versatility and successful applications in various fields, provided a systematic approach to decomposing the problem, performing binary combinations, determining priorities, and synthesizing results. The integration of these methods into a Geographic Information System (GIS) involved careful consideration of three levels of physical integration, with a preference for complete integration for flexibility.The results obtained from the application of AHP and ELECTRE I methods were compared, revealing that AHP offered a clear ranking of site suitability, while ELECTRE I identified multiple favorable locations. Site 4 emerged consistently as the most favorable in both methods.In conclusion, the AHP method proved effective for decision-makers in urban planning, providing a structured approach to handling complex problems. However, the ELECTRE I method exhibited limitations in addressing uncertain and conflicting decisions. The integration of these methods into GIS enhances spatial analysis capabilities, contributing to advancements in decision support systems for waste management.
