Land Surface Temperature Spatiotemporal Analysis In Relation To Earthquake Occurrence, Case Of Arzew In Algeria

Studies of events associated to earthquakes are essential to fully understand and mitigate this type of natural disaster. In this work, survey of earthquake events is conducted by looking at deviations in Land Surface Temperatures (LST). The investigation is carried out by finding the relationship between changes in LST in relation to the earthquake that occurred on the 26 June 2022 (Mw = 4,5) at Arzew, in North-West of Algeria. Landsat-8 satellite imagery are used to get the values of LSTs using a Split-Window algorithm, which uses the two thermal bands of Landsat data, and the deviation that occurred is deduced from a statistical test, by comparing the average LST for June month of five years period. The results of the study is an increase in LST due to the earthquake occurrence. The increase is about 13,48°C on the day after the earthquake.
