Augmentation of Dynamic Stability Using Power System Stabilizer Utilizing Fuzzy Logic Techniques

The power system operates within a dynamic environment, susceptible to disruptions that can lead to instability if not managed effectively. Maintaining steady state stability is crucial to prevent system failure. Voltage regulators play a key role in this stability maintenance by receiving auxiliary signals from various sources, including deviations and stabilizing power. Traditionally, power system stabilizers (PSSs) have relied on lead-lag compensation mechanisms, which require meticulous gain adjustments to accommodate different operating conditions. However, this conventional approach struggles to ensure stability across diverse loading scenarios, posing a significant challenge in designing stabilizers that perform consistently well.One proposed solution to this challenge is fuzzy logic control, which offers a promising alternative to conventional methods. Fuzzy logic control does not rely heavily on precise mathematical models of the system and instead leverages linguistic information to adaptively respond to operational parameters. This approach holds potential for achieving robust performance across a range of operating conditions, addressing the inherent difficulty in designing stabilizers that excel universally.The primary focus of this research is to address the complexity associated with designing stabilizers capable of maintaining stability under varying mechanical input conditions. Specifically, we aim to develop a system that demonstrates stable behavior even in the presence of up to a five percent change in mechanical input. By exploring the application of fuzzy logic control in this context, we seek to overcome the limitations of traditional methods and enhance the stability and reliability of electric power systems.
