Exploring the potential of Non Terrestrial Networks in next generation Intelligent Transport Systems

Our study investigates the fusion of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) with advanced Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), highlighting the capability of NTNs, including UAVs, HAPS, and satellites, to boost coverage, reliability, and performance. The study showcases how, despite atmospheric attenuation challenges, Free-Space Optical (FSO) communication remains a robust channel for high data rate achievements. It offers an in-depth examination of path loss models and coverage areas, culminating in a case study aimed at enhancing the ITS infrastructure along the Hauts Plateaux highway in Algeria.
