Novel ENG, MNG, and DNG Metamaterial Unit Cells for S and C Communications

This article discusses optimizing and simulating three new metamaterial unit cells using CST Microwave Studio Suite 2019. Our approach involves understanding the operational mechanisms of traditional Split Ring Resonator (SRR) and Complementary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR) cells. The design process requires adjusting the ring dimensions, interconnecting metallic stubs, splitting gaps, and inter-ring distances to achieve the frequency band required for satellite applications. The designed ENG, MNG, and DNG cells are simulated with carefully selected boundary conditions. The Scattering parameters are converted using the Smith technique into Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB) code to extract the EM characteristic of MTM. A Rogers is the substrate, and 0.035-mm PEC is the conductive material for designing the unit cells. The results confirm that the suggested unit cells are promising candidates for satellite communications.
