Sizing of fuel cell/supercapacitor hybrid system based on driving cycles and required power

The design and modeling of power sources used in a hybrid vehicle system is the main topic of this work. To be more precise, the primary energy source is a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC), with an auxiliary source being an Ultra-Capacitor (UC) bank. The evaluation of electric vehicles’ (EVs’) mechanical and electrical performances is the main focus of this study. The instantaneous velocity during a vehicle’s motion is suggested as a tool for analyzing its mechanical properties where It is technically compatible with the type of vehicle studied, which is a street sweeper. The power demand is directly impacted by the mechanical and electrical performances required for an electric vehicle (EV), which in turn influences the system’s overall design. The Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) cannot meet demand during peak demand periods on its own; therefore, the extra power must be supplied by the UC bank. In our work, we take into account the efficiency of each power transformer, including the DC-DC converters, gearbox, differential, and motor. The MATLAB software environment is used to analyze the data.
