Study on Characteristics of SIW Bandpass-Filter Loaded with Full and Reduced Size of Artificial Dielectric Material

In this paper, a study on the characteristics of a substrate-integrated-waveguide (SIW) bandpass-filter (BPF) loaded with artificial dielectric material (ADM) is investigated through simulation and experimental measurement. The dimensions of proposed SIW BPF take 66 mm length, 40 mm width, and 3.2 mm thickness, with FR4 Epoxy materials used as the dielectric substrate. The investigation result indicates that the characteristics of SIW BPF loaded with reduced-size of ADM is almost similar to the one with full-size of ADM. This is beneficial to reduce the need of ADM size while maintaining the characteristics of SIW BPF.
