Conductor-Based Modeling of a Single-Tooth Winding for EMI Simulation

A universal gray box model is proposed for the single-tooth winding of a permanent magnet synchronous machine across a wide frequency range. The proposed model facilitates the analysis of voltage distribution within the winding under inverter-fed operations. Compared to the state-of-the-art, the proposed model considers a frequency-dependent mutual impedance between various conductors within the winding. Furthermore, the capacitive and inductive coupling between different turns and between turns and the winding housing is considered in the model. The parameterization process is carried out using impedance measurements. Thereby, the model parameters are optimized using a genetic algorithm. The the model is first validated in the frequency domain. Then, an impulse generator consisting of silicon carbide power modules is used to validate the accuracy of the voltage distribution along the single-tooth winding under different conditions. A maximum relative error of 6.5% is observed between the simulated and measured voltage peaks along the single-tooth winding at different switching frequencies and du/dt conditions.
