An Efficient PML Algorithm Based on the ADE Method for Unmagnetized Plasma

The perfectly matched layer (PML) is a hot research topic in the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. In this letter, we propose a novel and efficient complex frequency-shifted (CFS) PML algorithm using the auxiliary differential equation (ADE) method. The proposed CFS-PML is named the ADE-iPML, where the letter “i” denotes the characteristic that the ADE-iPML is independent of the host media in the computational domain at the code level. Furthermore, we apply the ADE-iPML to truncate unmagnetized plasma, which is also simulated by the ADE method. The numerical experiment provided in this letter shows that the ADE-iPML has good absorption performance while consuming less CPU time than other commonly used PML algorithms.
