Capacitive Touch Air Gap Measurement

This project aimed to enhance the measurement of air gaps within Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), focusing on dimensions below 0.1mm. Traditional testing methods often proved insufficient for accurately assessing these minute gaps, necessitating innovative approaches. Through comprehensive testing and theoretical calculations, this research provided precise determinations of air gaps within HMIs, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of touchpad performance characteristics. Capacitance measurements across various touchpad areas were meticulously conducted, facilitating the correlation between capacitance values and specific regions. Leveraging data from good samples, theoretical calculations accurately predicted capacitance readings for defective samples, enabling a detailed assessment of air gap dimensions. Additionally, proposed design modifications involving metal lids offered practical solutions for enhancing measurement accuracy. These findings advance sensor technology and human-machine interaction, paving the way for more sophisticated and reliable HMIs in various industries.
