A Compact Microstrip Patch Antenna with DGS for Ultra-wideband and Kurz Bands Applications

This article focuses on the design, analysis, and optimization of a broadband antenna exhibiting a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 29.3 GHz (5.55-34.85 GHz). The antenna consists of a small and compact
$(\mathbf{12}\times \mathbf{12}\times \mathbf{0.8}\ \mathbf{mm}^{\mathbf{3}})$
geometry constructed on Rogers RT5880 (lossy) substrate with partial DGS (defected ground structure) covering a significant portion of UWB (3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz). C band (4 GHz to 8 GHz), X band (8 GHz to 12 GHz),
$\mathbf{K}_{\mathbf{u}}$
band (12 GHz to 18 GHz), K band (18 GHz to 27 GHz), and 5G band (above 24 GHz) used for wireless systems. It exhibits a maximum gain of 4.75 dBi and an average efficiency of 85%. This makes the antenna suitable for diverse modern wireless communication systems, having a wide frequency spectrum. The antenna is designed, simulated, and analyzed with CST-MWS (Computer Simulation Technology-Microwave Studio) Suite 2018.
