Management of EVs for Mitigating Unbalance in a LV Distribution Grid

In industrialized nations, the use of electric vehicles (EVs) has grown dramatically to prevent climate change and maximize the use of renewable energy. Several researchers have examined the extent of imbalance and its effects on distribution grids, considering the unequal distribution of loads over the three phases. Furthermore, there has been no investigation into optimizing electric vehicle dispatch with regard to evenly distributing loads across all three phases of a distribution grid until now. This paper proposes a novel approach utilizing Genetic Algorithm to tune the discharging rate of EVs to mitigate imbalance in a low voltage (LV) distribution grid considering balanced loads such as residential load and EV charging demand among phases and presents a thorough comparison between the coordinated approach of EVs and the uncoordinated approach of EVs based on neutral current and voltage unbalance factor (VUF). Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed coordinated approach is assessed through its application to a Low Voltage distribution grid. The results indicate that the proposed technique successfully decreases voltage imbalance to less than 2% at every node and minimizes the neutral current on the supplying feeder.
