Designing, Building, and Testing a Low-Cost Scintillation Probe for Gamma-Ray Counting and Spectroscopy

In this work, a low-cost scintillation probe built with readily available components for gamma-ray counting and spectroscopy is presented. The probe incorporates a Bicron BC-412 plastic scintillator and a Photonis XP5312/SN1 photomultiplier tube (PMT). The testing of the developed probe was successfully performed for gamma-ray gross counting and spectroscopy by an accurate characterization of the Compton edge.
