Performance Analysis of Hexagonal Shaped PCF Based Surface Plasmon Resonance Voltage Sensor

Photonic crystal fiber-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors has gained popularity for their design flexibility, label-free detection, fast response, and lightweight nature. This paper presents a hexagonal SPR voltage sensor investigated in the voltage range of 300V to 390V, in wavelength spectrum from 0.8 μm to 1.4μm using Finite Element Method. The sensor incorporates a chemically stable gold (Au) coating on a single air hole's outer surface, inducing SPR. The PCF comprises FK51A glass, and Nematic Liquid Crystal (NLC) infiltrates the core. Simulation results reveal a maximum wavelength sensitivity (WS) of 4 nm/V, enabling detection of minimal voltage variations (as low as 25 mV). The study also delves into various structural parameters, affirming the sensor's high sensitivity and positioning it as a promising SPR voltage sensor.
