Toward Context-Aware Notification Service in Universities

Mobile computing is a technology that supports our communities with continuous connectivity at any time without preexisting infrastructure. It is a research area with emerging new applications. It has become an essential technology to transform our daily life activities such as working styles, communication ways and so on. Context awareness, which is part of mobile computing, is the concept of using contextual information about the environment to provide relevant and adaptive services to communities. This paper emphasizes a framework of context-aware management to notify stakeholders, such as faculties and students, of their universities’ class timetables and announcements, guide location-based routes and provide location-aware weather information. Accordingly, the user can get confident that he/she is not late to the classes and does not miss the important announcements by getting notification or reminder from the notification service. The proposed conceptual framework offers an information-oriented system for students and teachers in higher institutions. In this paper, we present key issues and corresponding solutions towards an efficient and practical realization of context-aware notification service in universities.
