Optimal STATCOM Configuration Method for Heavy Load Power Grid with Multi-Infeed HVDC

Currently, the decreasing reactive power support of power grid with heavy load and multi-infeed HVDC is posing a security risk to the transient voltage of the system. To address this issue, the optimization of dynamic reactive power configuration becomes urgent. Firstly, the application of the STATCOM model which is suitable for the system is proposed. In order to optimize the location of STATCOM, an index to evaluate the severity of transient voltage drop is introduced. Next, We have developed a capacity optimization model aimed at minimizing the cost of configuring STATCOM.. The problem at hand is addressed by employing the particle swarm optimization algorithm. Through simulation calculations on the optimization of STATCOM configuration in the GD power grid, the results obtained are positives. It indicates that this method for STATCOM configuration optimization is effective in enhancing the security of the transient voltage.
