Security Assessment for Power Grids with N-k Criterion under Severe Weather Conditions

Generating expected fault sets is crucial for the security assessment of power grids under severe weather. The existing methods involve complex grid topology calculations, which reduces the efficiency of the assessment process. Therefore, an N-k fault assessment method is proposed based on impact increments. Utilizing finite low-order fault states within the power grid, the proposed approach rapidly evaluates the effects of corresponding high-order fault states and generates anticipated fault sets for security assessment. Besides, the fault set can be simplified by using the independent relationships between devices. The simulation results indicate that the proposed security assessment method can accurately calculate the impact of N-k fault states in power grids.
