A Fully integrated, Low-Cost, High Channel Utilization Digital Isolator in Standard CMOS with 50Mbps and 100kV/μs CMTI

This paper presents a digital isolator based on time multiplexing. The transformer on the substrate is used as the isolator, and a 0.1mm thick, 66V/um isolation coefficient preprag is used as the dielectric to achieve 5kV isolation rating. By allocating the data of different isolation channels for transmission in different time periods, 8 inputs can be transmitted on one isolation transformer channel, improving the utilization of isolation channels. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed isolator can support a maximum transmission rate of 50 Mbps, with a current consumption of 2 mA per channel. The layout areas for TX and RX are only 1mm$^{2}$ and 1.12mm$^{2}$, respectively.
