A Transient Simulation Study of the Effect of the Phase Angle of Tripping on the Characteristics of Vacuum Arcs

The effect of the slamming phase angle on the vacuum arc characteristics is investigated by simulation analysis. The time-varying terms of flow field parameters such as density, temperature, pressure and velocity are introduced into the existing two-temperature magnetohydrodynamic steady state model, and the dynamic meshing method is utilized to model the contact separation process, so as to simulate different arc motion states by changing the breaking phase angle, and to investigate the arc morphology and the energy changes in the opening and breaking process. Simulation results show that the plasma is constantly spreading outward, due to the current reduction, the metal vapor source is also gradually reduced, the plasma density between the poles is reduced, the anode has not yet reached the active degree, and finally the arc is extinguished. The divided phase plays a crucial role in the properties of the vacuum arc. Specifically speaking, under the same breaking speed, the larger the breaking phase angle is, the shorter the arc burning time is, the smaller the anode plasma density is when the current passes through zero, and the smaller the anode energy flow density is.
