Modeling and Simulation of PEMFC Based on Physical Design Parameters

The PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) possesses the advantages of high energy efficiency, simple structure, zero-emission, etc., which has great development potential and application prospects. Modeling research is very important for the characterization, structural design, and control strategy analysis of PEMFC. In this work, a comprehensive PEMFC model is proposed based on simplifying assumptions and operating mechanisms. The model consists of a voltage model, an anode model, a cathode model, and a membrane model, and considers the transmembrane transport of water and gases. In addition, the model is designed based on operating conditions and physical design parameters to enable a more accurate characterization of the fuel cell. The influence of operating conditions on the output characteristics of PEMFC was explored using the developed model. The developed model can be used to optimize the design of the PEMFC.
