A Reconfigurable Charging Stack with DC-DC Modules Flexibly Allocated for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Traditional electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging pile power fixed, usually configured with a large number of DC-DC power modules to meet peak charging demand in a fixed topology connection, resulting in high initial investment cost of the charging station and low capacity utilization of power modules. At the same time, to be compatible with multiple types of EV charging, power modules are required to have a wide range of voltage and current output capability, resulting in low efficiency under light-load condition and challenging parameter design. To this end, this paper proposes an EV charging stack based on flexible switch arrays to achieve a reconfigurable series-parallel connection between modules, which is capable of charging multiple EVs of different types simultaneously. Intending to optimize the modules to operate near the highest efficiency point, it controls flexible switch arrays to meet the real-time charging demand of EVs. An application example is designed to verify the effectiveness of the reconfigurable charging stack in simulation.
