A Framework For Precise Road Damage Detection Using Deep Learning

In transportation networks, road infrastructure is essential because it guarantees the efficient and safe flow of people and products. However, there are substantial maintenance and safety difficulties due to the deterioration of roads over time caused by a variety of variables like weather and excessive traffic. Timely repairs and the avoidance of accidents depend heavily on the early and precise detection of road damage. This research suggests a novel use of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for the detection of road damage. CNNs are a desirable alternative for automatic road damage identification because of their outstanding performance in a range of computer vision applications. This study will focus on developing a system of precise and effective identification of road damage caused by photographs through the use of Deep Learning and Computer Vision techniques. As part of our process, we collect a wide range of road photographs that show all kinds of damage, like cracks, potholes, and deteriorated road surfaces. To enhance image quality, the dataset is preprocessed and annotated for training and assessment. A unique CNN architecture is created and trained to identify and categorize different kinds of road damage using this information. The trained model's accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score are evaluated using a separate validation dataset. We also test the model on real-world photos taken under different settings to see if it can generalize to previously unseen road damage scenarios. The results show that our CNN-based road damage recognition system achieves high accuracy in identifying and categorizing different types of road damage. Road repair may be done on schedule and at a reasonable cost by integrating this system with already existing infrastructure management systems. Moreover, it enhances road safety by spotting possible risks before they result in collisions.
