Wind Resource Assesment and Techno-economic Analysis using WaSP software- A Case Study

The continued depletion of fossil fuels and the threat of climate change has led to a global focus on renewable energy sources as an important alternative to combat dependency on non-renewable energy. Among the various renewable energy sources, wind energy has emerged as an efficient and less polluting alternative. The construction of highly productive and efficient wind farms involves several steps, with wind resource assessment being a critical one. The paper discusses a case study conducted in Ettimadai, Coimbatore district, Tamilnadu for the wind farm development. The paper discusses a detailed wind resource assessment conducted on the given location, wake analysis and the economic feasibility of the project. The wind resource assessment is done using WAsP software.
