Technology Era: Opportunities and Challenges for Engineering Learning and Skills Development

The field of engineering is constantly evolving, with new technologies emerging all the time. This means that engineers need to be constantly learning and upskilling in order to stay ahead of the curve. In this work, we discuss the challenges and opportunities of technology upskilling in India and Southeast Asia. We highlight the challenges of lack of access to quality training, language barrier, lack of time, and lack of motivation. We also discuss the opportunities for upskilling in India and Southeast Asia, such as the growth of the digital economy and the increasing demand for skilled workers. Further, some innovative methods for upskilling that are relevant to Industry 5.0 and have a human-centric focus are discussed. Additionally, a discussion on the importance of considering cultural factors when designing upskilling programs for India and Southeast Asia is presented.
