Dynamic Eccentricity Detection in Induction Motors using Stator Pole Flux

In this work, a strategy for detecting dynamic eccentricity in induction motors based on the flux linked by the stator poles is presented. To achieve this, the effects of eccentricity on magnetic flux are analyzed both analytically and using a finite element model. From this analysis, a residual signal obtained from the difference between the magnetic flux of opposite poles is proposed, which allows the decoupling of the diagnostic signal from the fundamental component. This approach offers an effective alternative for detecting dynamic eccentricity in induction motors. The strategy is validated through laboratory experimental tests on a motor with different levels of eccentricity and independent access to the windings of each pole. The obtained results indicate that it is possible to detect and quantify the eccentricity level in the air-gap based on the flux linked by the windings of a phase.
