Distributed Generation Insertion in Electrical Networks: A Case Study in Misiones, Argentina

This work presents a methodology applied to electrical distribution systems considering the Distributed Generation (DG) insertion in Misiones, Argentina. The proposed study aims to determine the maximum penetration level of DG in several distribution networks, without exceeding the technical quality limits specified by current regulations. First, the 13.2 kV distribution networks were modeled in the PowerFactory power system analysis software. Based on the radial standard network operation, different procedures and criteria for the location and sizing of the DG in all electrical nodes were proposed. The results show that for long feeders, the maximum insertion power levels of 1.44 MW and 0.73 MW were obtained for maximum and minimum power demand conditions, respectively. On the other hand, the insertion power increases up to 2.0 MW in short feeders of both maximum and minimum power demand conditions.
