Metal oxide semiconductors have garnered considerable attention in the field of photovoltaics due to their remarkable properties, including abundant availability, chemical stability, low toxicity, and cost‐effectiveness. These characteristics make them highly attractive for solar cell applications. Notably, metal oxide semiconductors exhibit a dual capability: they can directly convert solar energy within the active layer and efficiently transport charge carriers across functional layers. This chapter primarily focuses on advancements in the utilization of metal oxide semiconductors in solar cells. Specifically, we delve into the utilization of Cu₂O and CuO as active layers, along with ZnO and SnO₂ as functional layers. By exploring these, we aim to shed light on the latest developments and potential avenues for enhancing solar cell performance.
