Design and Development of Compact Microstrip Patch Antenna with DGS for Wireless Applications

The Research paper aimed to explore the potential of Defective Ground Structures (DGS) in enhancing the capabilities of a microstrip patch antenna with a rectangular patch having an insert feed that resonates at 4.5 GHz. The results were impressive. The return loss was significantly decreased by −33 dB, and the bandwidth was increased from 700 MHz to 1.3 GHz. Furthermore, by incorporating DGS, the antenna gained an extra of 0.5dB, particularly at the 4.5 GHz frequency. The reduction in reflected power (to −33 dB) is crucial for efficient signal transmission, which is fundamental to wireless communication. The amplified gain of the antenna demonstrates its ability to strengthen signal strength, making it an ideal choice for applications that require top-notch performance in 4.5 GHz frequency wireless communication systems. Our research measures the effectiveness of using Defective Ground Structures in enhancing the performance of microstrip patch antennas, especially in the 4.5 GHz range.
