Design of Frequency Reconfigurable Dual-Band Rectangular Ring-Shaped Antenna with High Isolation

The proposed MIMO antenna can electronically switch between two frequency ranges. Specifically, it can operate in the (2.14–2.98) GHz range, which is commonly used for Wi–Fi, and the (6.66–7.16) GHz range, which may be used for fixed satellite applications. Two PIN diodes are used in the antenna design to enable the electronic switching between the two frequency ranges. The antenna design incorporates a new inverted F-shaped defective ground arrangement to enhance isolation between the antenna elements. The proposed antenna is simulated using EM solver and obtained a peak realized gains at 2.45 GHz and 6.91 GHz are 4.68 dBi and 4.27 dBi, respectively.
