An Ultra-Compact and Conformal70 GHz Circular Patch Antenna for V-Band (57-71GHz) 5G Millimeter Wave Applications

A single circular antenna resonating at 70 GHz is simulated on a Rogers 5880 substrate with a thickness of 0.252mm. The antenna covers a wide range of frequencies, from 64.00 GHz to 72.00 GHz, with an impedance bandwidth of 6.2 GHz. The electromagnetic energy is radiated by the circular patch, which is connected to a microstrip feedline etched on the top of the dielectric with the full ground on the opposite side. The antenna is ultra-compact, with a small volume of
$6.5 \times 6\times 0.252\text{mm}^{3}$
on Roger's dielectric material, and has a matching impedance of
$(49.01-\mathrm{j} 0.23) \Omega$
. The element exhibits a peak gain of 6.08dB at 70.0GHz and a directivity of 5.89dB for the intended frequency band. The compact design, along with a high impedance bandwidth, makes the antenna suitable for high-speed and high-capacity point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless links in V-band (57–71GHz) millimeter-wave applications with deployment in 5G infrastructure.
