An Open Book Shaped 3-D Patch Antenna Design for C Band Applications

Microstrip patch antennas are popular because of their small size, low cost, and ease of manufacturing. They are used in many different applications. Nonetheless, the antenna designer faces a constant challenge from the market's desire for new technologies that offer high performance and compactness. The limitations of traditional techniques for increasing bandwidth and gain are primarily related to their difficult implementation or poor radiation performance. This paper presents a novel patch antenna layout that takes advantage of the customizable form factor. It is simple, yet effective. A suitable alteration to the radiator's vertical profile is implemented. The designed antenna used for C band applications is resonating at 6.54GHz, 8.1GHz, having the maximum gain at 7.4dBi. To achieve dual resonance and an improved gain, a partially reflective surface with a cavity resonator is introduced, and an open book shape has been chosen as a demonstration of idea without sacrificing generality. The suggested method enables a normal flat microstrip patch's bandwidth to be increased from 4% to 7%.
