Dual-Band, Dual-Polarized Reconfigurable Reflectarray Antenna Operating at C and X Band

This paper introduces a novel dual-band, dual-polarized reconfigurable reflectarray antenna designed to operate efficiently in the C and X bands. The unit cell design comprises two square rings, each consisting of four varactor diodes for dynamic reconfigurability. A notable simplification in biasing circuitry is achieved by applying a consistent bias voltage across the varactor diodes in both rings. The unit cell achieves a continuous phase range of 310° and 309° at 5.55 GHz and 10 GHz, respectively, with peak losses of 0.78 dB and 0.65 dB. Preliminary simulation results show a consistent beam steering capability with a gain of around 21 dB and 24 dB at C and X band respectively. Due to the inherent symmetry in the unit cell structure, the proposed antenna can operate with both x- and y-polarized incident waves.
