Analysis of Slot and Via Position Effects on Bandgap Characteristics in Mushroom Electromagnetic Bandgap Structures

Electromagnetic bandgap structures (EBG) are artificial periodic elements designed to prevent electromagnetic (EM) waves from propagating within certain frequency ranges. The combination of EBG structures with antennas improves overall performance by effectively reducing surface waves generated by the antennas within a specified frequency band. The standard Mushroom EBG unit cell was studied using HFSS software at a resonance frequency of 5.2 GHz. MEBG consist of via at center which connects the metallic patch and substrate. This paper investigates the influence of introducing slots and adjusting the positioning of the via on the bandgap characteristics and resonant frequency within the EBG structure.
