Radiation Pattern Improvement of Bowtie Antenna Using Annular Ring for Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication

In the present work, a novel bowtie antenna with radiation pattern improvement using annular ring is presented for vehicle-to-vehicle communication. The proposed leaf-shaped bowtie antenna resonates in the frequency band 2.4 to 6.8 GHz with good reflection characteristics meeting Wi-Fi, WLAN and V2X bands. The important characteristic of V2X communication is to have omnidirectional radiation pattern on azimuthal plane. The design of the proposed antenna is improved by adding annular ring to get the desired omnidirectional radiation pattern. The developed antenna meets the IEEE 802.11p standards and can be easily integrated into vehicles.
