Design of Broadband Metamaterial Absorbers for C- and X-Band Applications

This work proposes a broadband metamaterial absorber. It is made up of three layers: metal, FR4 and metal. The simulation outcomes indicate both broad-spectrum and maximum absorption peaks from 4.71 GHz to 8.1 GHz, and the absorption rates are 90% to 100%, respectively. The influence of structural elements is analysed and optimized. The examination involves analyzing the electric field and surface current patterns when subjected to normally incident transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) waves. The simulation outcomes demonstrate that it exhibits insensitivity to polarization, possesses a straightforward structure, boasts a high absorption rate, features a broad bandwidth, and finds application in various fields such as electromagnetic camouflage, bolometers, sensors, and more.
