Design and Development of Ku Band Receiver Front End for Radar Application

This paper presents a systemic analysis and measurements of a radiofrequency front-end receiver for satellite communications in Ku Band, as well as the design charac-terization of the first stage, which has a satisfactory a high conversion gain (CG), low-noise figure (NF) to reduce the noise contribution of following stages, and a high linearity to avoid receiver saturation in the presence of interference's. This is the first experimental demonstration of a down converter receiver with high gain and low NF that has been designed and executed. The intended receiver features high conversion gain and good linearity. The planned down converter has a conversion gain of 66 dB and a maximum IF output of 8 dBm. Furthermore, the designed receiver has a minimal NF of 6 dB across its bandwidth.
