Development of a High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) Treatment System: Integrating STM32G474 Microcontroller and GaN Power Devices for Precise Tissue Targeting and Remote Control

High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment system, as a non-invasive therapy technology, uses the ultrasonic waves generated by ultrasonic transducers to form thermal damage to the focus area through external emission and internal treatment [1]. When the energy of the focused sound wave is high enough, the diseased tissue undergoes thermal necrosis, resulting in cell death. Currently, it has been widely used in the treatment of uterine fibroids in China [2]. This paper presents a proposed solution: using a single or dual chips to drive the annular transducer to focus the ultrasound on the target area, thus achieving the inactivation of diseased tissue. The system uses the STM32G474 as the main control chip and GaN [3] as the external driving power device [4]. It combines a LCD screen and a graphical user interface and is controlled in combination with peripheral devices to enable the main control board to independently adjust the PWM signal. At the same time, this design also implements communication between the upper and lower computers to achieve remote control. Finally, it is preliminarily verified by experiments that the four waveforms generated by the main control meet the full-bridge excitation standard in the normal frequency range. And also, the waveforms of the full-bridge output under different power supply voltages are tested when the PWM frequency is controlled. Furthermore, the synthesized electric power and sound power output by the full bridge under different power supply voltages are tested when PWM frequency is controlled, which can basically achieve ideal results.
