A Novel Compact Two-Port MIMO Antenna Verified with TCM Analysis for 28/38 GHz 5G mm-wave Applications

A new miniaturized dual-band multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is designed in this research for usage in 28/38 5G mm-wave wireless communication. The antenna is etched on FR-4 epoxy with size 20.36mm × 8.27mm × 0.4 mm. The proposed antenna is made up of two radiating elements with full ground on the bottom side of the substrate and rectangular slots and stubs on the top side. To enhance isolation, a thin, rectangular stub is positioned in between each MIMO antenna element. The suggested dual-element MIMO antenna functions at a resonance frequency of 28 GHz and 38 GHz, and the isolation between the MIMO components is significantly >33 dB. Peak gains of 4.5 dBi at 28 GHz and 3 dBi at 38 GHz are provided by the antenna, together with radiation efficiencies of >80% at operational bands. Envelope Correlation Coefficient and Diversity Gain are two key MIMO metrics that are studied in order to characterize the performance of the suggested MIMO antenna. The consistent patterns on the E and H planes of the developed antenna make it suitable for 5G applications in the mmwave band.
