LTCC Based Microstrip Antenna Designed for Millimeter Wave Applications Using CPW-Fed Technique

This paper presents a CPW-fed wideband microstrip antenna with multilayered technology. It is proposed for millimeter-wave applications at 60GHz (V-band). The antenna consists of six layered substrate ESL41111-G of size 3mm×2.8mm with relative permittivity of 4.11. It consists of octagonal shaped patch on top of top layer and a periodic structure on the second layer of the substrate. The technique utilized to design antenna is called Low Temperature Co-Fired Ceramic (LTCC), which is 3D multilayer structure integrated vertically. The proposed antenna operates over the frequency range of 58-62GHz with bandwidth of 11.2% and has a gain of 3.5dB. The antenna has advantages of simple fabrication, process without using integrated cavities, vias, or other complicated structures like AMCs, EBG, SIW, or LTCC-LPC structures. This LTCC-based broadband antenna is designed using HFSS and the simulation's findings show a lot of promises in wireless communication applications.
