Simulation and Design for Sub-THz Spectrum TWT Pierce Source with Beam Stabilizer and Magnetic Field Guard

The design and optimization of a Pierce source with beam stabilizer system tailored for high-power sub-THz traveling-wave tubes (TWTs). The initial parameters for the Pierce-type thermionic electron gun were synthesized using the Vaughan approach. Subsequent optimization was carried out using the MWS CST solver, focusing on a beam voltage of 20 kV. The desired beam radius and beam current density were achieved after 40 iterations of beam area compression. Additionally, a compact periodic permanent magnet system (PPM) was meticulously designed to facilitate the seamless transport of the electron beam. Simulation results demonstrated an impressive 100 % beam transmission through the designated beam tunnel, achieved with an optimum peak magnetic field of 0.25 T. This comprehensive approach underscores the efficacy and potential of our designed electron optics system for high-power sub-THz TWT applications.
