Identification of Coherent Group of Generators Based on Modularity Clustering to Improve System's Resiliency

Networks for transmitting and distributing electricity are being built and extended over large geographic regions. The main aim of transmission and distribution network planning depends on reliability improvement. Meanwhile attaining power system stability during the events is a major task. This paper proposes a controlled clustering based on the coherency detection of generators by performing the correlation coefficient of the generator's rotor angle. Traditionally, the coherency of generators can be predetermined offline. A new online coherency detection is framed based on the synchronizing torque coefficient. The proposed methodology implements modularity clustering based on the correlation coefficient and synchronizing torque coefficient. In addition to achieving realtime coherency detection, the suggested method offers network integrity metrics for analyzing the power system's dynamic behavior. The effectiveness of our method is illustrated by a simulated case study on the IEEE 39 bus system, which consists of 10 generators after a typical events.
