A Flexible Wearable Antenna On-Body and Implant Communications Using UWB Technology

This paper presents a prototype of a UWB antenna specifically designed for biomedical applications. The proposed antenna features a circular radiating element and achieves enhanced impedance matching characteristics through coplanar waveguide (CPW) feeding. The antenna design utilizes a high-frequency substrate, Rogers XT 8000, known for its flexibility, with a permittivity of 3.3 and a loss tangent of 0.002. The suitability of the proposed antenna for on-body biomedical applications is emphasized, and the antenna model is created using the CST tool. Through simulations, it is observed that the circular radiating element of the UWB antenna effectively radiates within the frequency range of 2.39 to 6.98 GHz. Additionally, the paper presents results pertaining to the radiation pattern, gain, reflection coefficient, and surface current distribution of the proposed antenna.
