GIS Based Wind Resource Classification and Analyses for Potential Exploitation in Egypt

Egypt possess abundant land as 95% of the population lives on only 5% of Egypt area. Additionally, Egypt has sufficient wind energy however; the contribution of such renewable to the Egyptian energy scheme needs further involvement to break the dominance of petroleum and natural gas. Increasing the share of renewables to Egypt's energy system also goes along the efforts of confronting the climate change. Thus, this paper unleashes the potential of the onshore wind resource spatially and quantitively through GIS oriented methodology to assist planners in exploiting the onshore wind resource. The results indicate tremendous technical potential values.
