Computer-Assisted Approach to Study of Bacterial Communication for Landau-Based Model of Population Growth

This paper proposes a mixed deterministic model of bacterial communication process during bacterial colony growth in nutrient media. The model formalization includes a combination of the reaction-diffusion quorum sensing model and the bacterial evolution model related to the Landau theory within the core framework of the existence of a growth threshold for bacteria in the growth process. To solve the application problem, the finite element method was used. The implementation was done on the COMSOL Multiphysics platform. Taking the Pseu-domonas putida bacterial species as an example, computational experiments were performed to examine the spatial-temporal characteristics of the biological system. The obtained results confirm that the considered approach can help to predict the growth morphology of bacterial colonies and control the dynamic process of bacterial communication to a certain extent.
