Energy performance assessment of residential buildings using Fuzzy approach and AHP method: Case study in the Algerian context

This paper aims to develop a methodology to assess energy performance of residential buildings in Algeria using performance-based approach. The proposed methodology uses two approaches: top-down and bottom up. The first one facilitates the identification of criteria and performance indicators (PIs) related to a sustainable building towards this energy criterion. The second is based on a multi-criteria aggregation and it assesses energy performance using Fuzzy approach and AHP method (Analytic Hierarchy Process). So, we have quantified and defined the selected indicators according to the available data and we have applied a multi-criteria aggregation. The method is demonstrated through its application to Algerian residential buildings. The AHP method was used to calculate the weight of PIs. Fuzzy logic and weighted sum method were used to assess the energy performance of residential buildings towards the selected PIs. The obtained results show that the method of fuzzy logic is very effective for this type of study. Its comparison with the AHP method through the aggregation by weighting of PI, criteria and sub-objectives by the weighted sum method allows us to place it in a very good position for the treatment of other sustainability objectives.
