OP Amp Circuits

Summary

The operational amplifier (OP Amp) is probably the most versatile analog chip available. The OP Amp usually comes in the form of an eight‐pin dual in‐line package integrated‐circuit. This chapter discusses the most basic OP Amp configurations, that is, the inverting, non‐inverting, and buffer amplifiers with negative feedback, and additionally, the inverting and non‐inverting amplifiers with positive feedback. Several points are worth mentioning about the OP Amp circuit: the closed‐loop gain is determined by the external components and can easily be customized to a particular application. Together with the infinitely large input resistance and negligibly small output resistance of OP Amp, we can summarize different important properties of an idealized OP Amp model, that are so useful for the analysis of OP Amp circuits. The chapter deals with two common circuit topologies, multi‐FeedBack and Sallen‐Key architectures, that are often used to realize various second‐order transfer functions.
