Performance Evaluation of Small-Cap Equity Mutual Fund Using Data Mining Techniques

This research paper focuses on the performance evaluation of small-cap equity mutual funds with the help of data mining techniques. The study aims to leverage advanced statistical methods to assess and predict the effectiveness of small-cap equity funds in the financial market. Mutual funds are a secure medium for Indian investors to participate in Indian financial markets. Performance is a key indicator for the mobilization of savings into these mutual funds. The main purpose of this paper is to build a mutual fund performance evaluation model by using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) statistics software platform. In this paper, the evaluation is restricted to small-cap equity mutual funds. This study covers top-rated funds in the small-cap category with the validation study period of the last fifteen years from April 2007 to March 2021. Through this analysis, the paper seeks to provide valuable insights for investors and fund managers, enabling informed decision-making in the context of small-cap equity mutual fund investments. The results of this paper aim to contribute to the ongoing discourse on fund evaluation methodologies and enhance the understanding of factors influencing the performance of small-cap equity funds.
