A Compact Circular Patch Antenna for Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Communication (Ku-k-Ka)

An offset fed circular patch with partial-ground is etched to radiate electromagnetic energy in the microwave and millimeter-wave band. The patch is placed on a substrate made of RT/Duroid, which has a thickness(t) of 0.787mm and measures 9.5×6.5mm
²
. The substrate has a dielectric constant (also known as sub r) of 2.2 and a loss tangent (tan delta) of 0.0009. A partial ground and offset feed are used for better impedance bandwidth and improved impedance matching. This antenna design offers an impedance bandwidth of 13.2GHz, which covers partial Ku band from 16.5-18 GHz, full K-band spectrum from 18–27 GHz, and some portion of Ka-band from 27-29.7GHz. It includes 28GHz as well as 29 GHz frequencies from millimeter bands with resonance at 26.8GHz.
