Optimization of WDM-PON and TDM-PON Optical Networks for High Rate Information Communication

Nowadays people are running behind the technological devices which are based on high speed data transfer. Mobile, tablets and desktop computers are such examples of such devices. This paper focuses on technology which is used by these devices to transfer data and its optimization. WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) are two basic technologies which are used when there are multiple users in traffic. In this paper two different types of Passive Optical Networks (PON) are designed based on WDM and TDM Technology and various relationship are obtained to judge the performance of a network. PON is chosen here to reduce the final cost of Passive optical network. Active Optical Network (AON) offers the high cost. WDM-PON and TDM-PON are two different passive optical networks which is to be designed for the range of bitrate between 10 Gbps to 50 Gbps. The main two parameters used to measure the system performance are BER and QF which measures the errors in transmitted bits and quality obtained by the received signal. OptSim 2023 software is used to design the said networks.
